Ascent Trip ReportPine Mountain is easily accessed from Hwy 20 east of Bend. In the small settlement of Millican I turned south onto the road signed for the Pine Mountain Observatory and zeroed my odometer. AT 3.2 miles I stayed straight on FR 2017, at 7.8 miles I passed the observatory on the left and continued straight. At 8.7 miles I turned left onto an old logging road that was used for thinning the forest. One could park right at this point, but I drove into the forest about .1 mile and parked.
The hike is straight forward up the ridgeline. There was about 1" of snow on the ground where I parked, but I think I followed an actual trail up to the top of the ridgeline and then game trails to the summit. It was a nice hike but the summit was in a cloud with no views. The wind was blowing and it was cold also. The forest has been thinned all the way up the ridge, so it is not brushy at all.
