Ascent Trip Report

I stopped to do this hike on my way back home from a couple days in Brownsville, Vermont alone. It was a perfect little break from driving. Since it is past the parks operating season, the gate was locked and I parked on the side of the driveway out near VT-9. There were a few other cars parked there as well.

I hiked counter-clockwise and walked south in the park to the start of the trail. It said it was 0.7 miles to the fire tower. On the way up near a gathering of large boulders, I saw a porcupine. We had a nice little chat. He's the first porcupine I've ever seen and about the coolest wildlife I've seen while hiking.

The trail was very easy. Being in the full swing of fall, the trail was covered with fallen leaves, yet it was well traveled and easy to follow. The trail is also well marked with blue blazes.

I was at the fire tower in under an hour. From the tower the view is quite lovely. Although it was completely overcast, I could see for quite a distance. I'm sure it is very beautiful on a clear day.
