Ascent of Hazel Wood on 2013-11-02
|Date:||Saturday, November 2, 2013|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||84 m / 276 ft|
Ascent Trip ReportThe highest point of Selby District, North Yorkshire. Located just south of the A1(M)/A64 junction.
I parked on the western verge of the minor road towards Aberford, opposite the "No Through Road" sign. Walking firstly under the motorway, turning right and then left along the road through Black Horse Farm and finally along the public footpath to Hazel Wood itself. The spot height on the 1:25,000 map is 84 metres on a forestry tack at SE 43813 39403, however, by altimeter the ground in the woods just to the west, between the public footpath and the track, seemed to be 1-2 metres higher. In any case the area within the large 80m ring contour is pretty flat and the summit could be one of many places. Many more beech and sycamore trees than hazels.
