Ascent Trip Report

Climbed one Monday during an extended lunch hour. I was feeling the need for some fresh air, so drove a short distance from one of my offices to Möriken and hiked to the ridgeline following signs for the site of a Bronze Age settlement (Bronzezeitsiedlung), which was discovered in 1948 on the ridgeline of the Chestenberg and partially excavated over the following decade. Once at these remains, I turned west and followed the forested ridge west to the summit. Typical of the Jura the ridge has a steep rocky drop off on one side (north) which just about requires you to pay attention to where you are placing your feet on the slippery rocks. There was no view due to the typical autumn mists, but a couple of benches near the summit where trees had been cut suggests it would be nice on a better day. Descent by traversing the ridge to it's western end and returning via the fortified house (castle is overdoing really) to the west of Möriken. Overall better use of lunchtime than sitting in the canteen..
