Ascent Trip Report

Overshadowed by Roseberry Topping and the Cleveland Hills, this is the highest point of Middlesbrough Unitary Authority.

Park in the lay-by on the B1292, enter the 'Whinstone View' hotel/bistro entrance, but immediately turn left through the smaller of the two wooden gates (the larger one is misleadingly labelled 'Private Road', but this route is definitely on a Public Footpath). Follow the rough asphalt path past the holiday lodges and turn left again over a stream when you reach a concrete foot bridge. Turn right, follow the stream for a few tens of metres before crossing a stile on the left. Enter the field and after 100 metres or so mount the wooded hill to the right of you. The exact highpoint is questionable and is probably north of the wire fence; the 'West' hillock may well be as high as the 'East' hillock. Return the same way.
