Ascent of Blacktail Mountain on 2013-09-08
|Date:||Sunday, September 8, 2013|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||9477 ft / 2888 m|
Ascent Trip ReportGPS shows 5.6 miles one-way with an elevation gain of 3,409'. It is actually quite a pleasant walk, once you pass timber line it is a very broad grassy slope surrounded by the ranges of SW Montana. From the USFS travel plan map I expected the road to be open farther than my start (see GPS track). The gate was locked but I went anyhow and a sign further along suggested you should be able to get there legally. Regardless, I'd check if you plan on this route.
