Ascent Trip ReportThis TR covers the 3 summits I climbed on Grosse Ile and added to the PB Library for Greg's approval.
We left our campground this morning bound for "the eye of the hook" of La Madeleine .... Grosse Ile and Grande Entree. We drove from Cap Aux Meules, east on #199, all the way to the very west end of Grande Entree, the Federal Fishing Arbour at La Pointe. Besides doing some HPs as per this report we stopped/visited numerous spots .... Fishing Harbour, Seacow Bay, and church/cemetery on Grande Entree, the Municipal Office and Mines Seleine on Grosse Ile (sat in on a presentation), plus a few beaches along the drive.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO THE GROSSE ILE HPS.
Arriving eastbound on #199 at Grosse Ile we made a right turn on Chemin Rock Mountain (1.5km after passing Mines Seleine), we zeroed our odo.
0.0km ... we left #199 southbound on Chemin Rock Mountain.
0.4km ... arrive at road crest with a track on right (just before QC Hydro Substation). This track leads west to LE ROCK MOUNTAIN.
0.5km ... turned left (east) on Chemin Wide
0.7km ... dirt track on the right leads to GROSSE ILE HIGH POINT, across the road is a new 2 story/lime-green house under construction. We continued driving east.
1.3km ... arrive at an obscure track on the right which leads south to GROSSE ILE TOWER MOUNTAIN. This track is 30M passed a dirt road on the right and before the crest of Chemin Wide, I added pink tape to this TH.
LE ROCK MOUNTAIN
From Chemin Rock Mountain I climbed (west) the moderately steep track 100+ meters to the peaked summit, offering an outstanding panorama of this area, perhaps the best. My GPS read 47.61430,-61.53527.
GROSSE ILE HIGH POINT ... a moderate/dense wack .... 2.4km, 1h05 RT.
Frome Chemin Wide I walked/climbed the dirt road south 300 meters to the ridge where it bends right (west). I continued/descended (100') west 400 meters to an open area, this was the start of my bushwack (47.61018,-61.53419). I bushwacked steeply north 50M, left 30M, then north again 50M to the ridge where I found a wide grass track heading west along the ridge. At 300+M I came directly to the heavily wooded summit area. I chose my spot at 47.61025,-61.53774. I pink blazed my bushwack route and added a wooden cairn to my spot.
GROSSE ILE TOWER MOUNTAIN .... 300 meters. 20 minutes RT.
From Chemin Wide I walked/climbed the somewhat-overgrown/moderately-steep track southbound 100+ meters to the summit capped with a Communication Tower. I found my HP 15 meters west inside the woods, I added orange tape to my spot GPS 47.61503,-61.52362, no views.
From Grosse Ile we went to climb the Grande Entree HP, all as per its TR.
