Ascent Trip Report

We approached Francs Peak from Meeteetse and headed west. We found Phelps Road, survived the steep ascent and open/closed 4 gates before cresting on the plateau of the upper mountain. Easy driving once on the plateau. We parked at about 11,000 ft, car camped and started early the next morning. Climbed the steep slope of point 11,870 and then followed the ridge over BM Reef. Here we scared up a grizzly bear and he retreated northward towards the summit. We followed him for about 1.5 miles along the grizzly bear trail on the ridge. No real problem accessing the summit. We did see 3 sheep near the summit and a couple more bears once we were on the summit. Fun climb. Views obscured by a fire to the west.
