Ascent Trip ReportWe used Dean's summitpost page for info on reaching the trailhead. I would comment that the trail takes off uphill just before you get to the big parking area at/near the end of the road. Dean's picture "Starting up the trail" can be used to ensure you are in the right place - it is taken just as the hiker is leaving the road. In dry conditions this road can be driven with just high clearance, 4WD is not needed. In fact, I know one guy who could probably get a passenger sedan up there - but I wouldn't want to.
The attached GPS track shows where we came back down a bit farther east. We missed the trail - I'd use the more westerly track as my guide. But the terrain is pretty easy wherever you go on the south slopes.
