Ascent Trip Report

I approached Nicolai Mtn from Hwy 30 between Astoria and Claskanie. I turned on the signed road for the Nicolai Mtn OHV area. From Hwy 30 I went straight at mile 1.5, at 2.9 miles turned left, and at 4.1 miles turn right for the road to the summit. Driving up this summit road there is a fork where the right fork may be gated. The gated road goes to the summit. I continued driving using the left fork and in another quarter mile the road ended where an ATV route begins.

I hiked up the ATV route to the summit area where there are comm buildings at the east end of the ridge. The road continues west onto the higher part of the ridge and I walked out this road. There was some recent logging activity along this road and I bushwhacked south from the road to higher ground along the ridge. I think I found the highest point along the ridge.
