Ascent Trip Report

A long day's driving from WV to KY taking in the high points of OH and IN as part of a grand tour of Washington DC, Fallingwater and East Coast state summits with my son. Easy enough to find Campbell Hill in western OH, the highest spot is located on the Ohio Hi-Point Campus in Bellefontaine (the site was previously the 664th A.C.& W. Radar Squadron and Air Force station). The direct entrance to the compound was closed by a locked gate. However, a few tens of metres down the road the other gate was open and gave free access to drive right up to the high point. Picked up a certificate of ascent from the adjacent brick-built dispenser. The summit area also features a flagpole, informative historic sign, benchmark, two iron benches and a small neatly presented garden surrounded by trees.
