Ascent Trip ReportAbsolutely beautiful day for which I waited a mere 1.5 weeks of unseasonable cold and rainy weather. Spotted thunderstorms passing on Adams, fortunately I was untouched and hadn't selected that peak. Much could be said about reaching my highest point outside of an airplane, hiking in terrain that, at this date, I find quite unusual. As the White Mountain Guide promises, this area is kept more primitive and it is easier to get lost or go astray, sometimes into quite steep terrain, here than on other northeast trails. Saying that increased care is warranted is not just lip service to scare people off. In the end it was mostly fun hard work, but there were a few times where I wandered off and made things harder for myself, had I been less tuned-in to my surroundings it would have been quite possible to add quite a bit of mileage or hassle to the trip. The area is beyond gorgeous and well worth all efforts, but bring buddies or plenty of experience, time, and respect for these awesome mountains! I went solo again this time but I would think carefully about doing that again in the Whites, especially if I were going somewhere I didn't expect many other hikers to be on a specific day.
