Ascent of Lyons Head on 2008-05-24
|Date:||Saturday, May 24, 2008|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||1230 ft / 374 m|
Ascent Trip ReportOn WA-261, about 0.4 mile S of the point where the bridge over the Snake River makes landfall on the S side of the river, I turned SW on signed, paved Lyons Ferry Road. 0.1 mile after the turn, I crossed some RR tracks. 0.9 mile after the turn, Lyons Ferry Rd crosses the border into Walla Walla county, and just 0.1 mile later, I parked under some power lines next to an open gate with a sign that said "No unauthorized vehicles beyond this point".
I walked W through that gate and along the road for about 5 minutes before veering uphill to the N. I passed W of "point 310+" and continued up the ridge to the summit. There are some gravel pits near the jeep road E of point 368.
During the climb and descent I could see what looked like a ranch near the road farther up the valley, probably near the border of sections 35 and 36.
