Ascent Trip Report

This was the first hike in a day of bagging 6 summits in the Vosges finest 50 by prominence list.

I parked just south of the south end of the Lac de Lisbach on a cloudy but promising morning. The forest road "Chemin de Marrion" was well signposted and easy to follow. It rose gently to a junction of forest road at 1129m altitude. Straight on was signposted for the neighbouring peak "Tete des Cerfs" (1177m). I took the right turn instead, signposted for "les Champis", the road was still covered in icy snow , just softening in the warmth of the morning. Eventually the path reached a simple hut, left open for public use for no charge, just like the bothies back home in Scotland. Inside was a fireplace, some wooden benches and tables, but no toilet or water supply. Stairs led up to the wood-floored sleeping loft and there was a wood store outside. From the hut, open slopes led up to the summit area, in some trees. The highest ground was reasonably easy to find, the trig buried under a still thick layer of snow. Return by the outward route was quickly accomplished.
