Ascent Trip ReportCrossed the Attila Line at the Agios Dimitrios checkpoint and took the Kyrenia highway before turning off on the St Hilarion road. This carroes on beyond the fairy tale castle along the forested ridge of the Kyrenia Mountains, Colin Thubron's "Gothic Range". I parked in the viewpoint car park about 10 miles turns off left to the large Turkish army radar base on Selvili Tepe. Reasoning that a friendly, nonchalant walker would hopefully get a less frosty reception than anyone discovered off-path in the woods, I kep on up the middle of the access road, past the unmanned lower station to a guard post by the main station on the top of the mountain. Fortunately, the guard post was unoccupied, its door left open, and the summit mound, topped by a trig point was between me and the radar station. Not a place to linger (feigned nonchalance can only go so far!), although the woodland scenery below the staion is attractive, though less varied than the Troodos.
