Ascent Trip Report

We paid some odd amount, about $5, as directed at the self-pay station at the entrance to Warren Dunes Park, even tho' we noted several other cars just passing by without paying. Only the first of several parking lots was open, unless you had a dune buggy to get over the sand covering the road. There were about a dozen folks going up to the adjacent "Pikes Peak," probably for the nice view of the lake, but only a few of them going further in. Tower Hill had a post with a USGS marker near the top. There were a few patches of snow, tho' none we had to walk over. The prominent feature was SAND everywhere we went, which make hiking slow on the uphill and fun on the downhill. We tried to make the sand boom on the steep slopes, as I could do in California dunes, but it seemed to be too wet to get it going.
