Ascent Trip ReportI hiked Little Christmas Mountain from the north because the peak is surrounded by cliffs on the other 3 sides. I accessed the peak through the Terlingua Ranch subdivision even though it is in big Bend National Park. I don't know if how the land ownership works on the ranch, but no one bugged me. I used Gate #2 which is about 1.5 miles from Study Butte on Hwy 118. I stayed on the main road and ignored all the driveways and branches off the main road. High clearance vehicle may be necessary because the road goes through and into many washes on the way to the north side of the peak. I parked right on the the National Park boundary. You can see the peak as you drive to the trailhead.
There really isn't a trailhead because there is no trail. From my parking spot I hiked up the steep slop, crossed a ridgeline, dropped about 40 ft to a saddle and then climbed another steep slope up past point 4520. There are rocky outcroppings along the way that are easily avoided. I never experienced anything more than Class 2. Past point 4520 I lost more than 100ft of elevation to another saddle and then climbed another steep slope up to the summit. Great views.
