Ascent Trip Report

This packpacking trip (started on July 26) in NH continues. Rose dropped me off this morning at Franconia Notch Rte #3 and drove home , she'll be back on Aug 24th.
From Rte #3 TH I climbed the Old Bridle Path to the AT nb, stopping in at Greenleaf Hut for a break.....going over Lafayette on the way to Garfield for #19. The view from this Garfield summit of the Pemigewasset Wilderness in simply outstanding.

I have now spent 3 weeks on the Trail, and I must say that the Whites are rough and tough with some very difficult trails. However they are awesome and very very "friendly". You only meet very nice people on the Trail especially the thru-hikers who have a unique culture.

It is very interesting how you bump into people more than once and how things happen in life for a purpose. A perfect example is the local photographer I first met taking pictures from the summit of Mount Liberty on August the 8th and then again today as I acted as his model while he took photos of the Pemigewasset Wilderness. I would meet him for the 3rd and last time, on top of Mount Washington on August the 21st (he goes out every weekend taking pictures).

Two years later I went on a hiking trip to Maine where I completed the "New England's 100 Highest" and "The 111 Four Thousand Footers in NE USA". On the way home Rose and I stopped in at the EMS store in North Conway, NH. And what do we see, as we checked-out their book section, but a picture of me from the summit of Mount Garfield adorning the cover of "50 More Hikes in New Hampshire", by Daniel Doan, 3rd edition 1995. A nice surprise, I had a smile from ear to ear, however I had to pay for a copy.

This is the second time that I've made the front cover, the first time being in 1991 while on the Bruce Trail in ON, see TR dated 1991-09-22.
