Ascent of Wildcat Mountain on 2013-02-02| Date: | Saturday, February 2, 2013 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Wildcat Mountain | | Location: | USA-New Hampshire | | Elevation: | 4422 ft / 1347 m |
Ascent Trip ReportThe snow was really hard and packed at this time of the year. Although the trip up to Carter Notch was fine, the 0.7 miles up to Wildcat summit was a real ballbuster (even for a woman): segments had an easily 30-40 degree incline over hard, slippery packed snow, with patches of thin snow directly over rocks, making footing challenging even with crampons. Thankfully, once the summit was reached, everything became easier. Walking the ridge over to Wildcat D and down the ski runs were very straightforward. The only vista point was at the Wildcat summit. Sadly, with the low-hanging clouds and snowfall, we could only barely make out the lake and parts of Carter Dome.
