Ascent Trip Report

A xcountry/drive up to 2 Areas .... .8 miles, 1 hour RT for both.

This County has 2 Candidate High Point Areas .... Area 1 south of the Cedar Hill Kingswood Park and Area 2 at the Patton Benchmark. We visited both of them.

AREA 1, SOUTH OF CEDAR HILL KINGSWOOD PARK ...... .8 miles, 30 minutes RT.
After visiting the Dallas High Point we found our way south to the intersection Hwy#67/FM1382 in Cedar Hill where we traveled south on #67 to the Frontage Road exit on the right (next exit south is Mt. Lebanon Road), .4 miles on Frontage Road (one way south) we turned right on KariAnn Drive with Baptist Church on corner.
KariAnn Drive winds westerly in the Kingswood Subdivision for .5 miles to its dead-end at red gate ...... straight ahead is one of the entrances to Cedar Hill Kingswood Park (a N-S grass field, 100 yards wide X half a mile long).
The Park as an oval grass path around its perimeter, this red gate was my TH.
I walked the grass path south 250 yards (on the east side of the Park) to the south end of the Park, crawled under a fence and continued on my line on a dirt track in cedar woods 150 yards to a large fenced-in horse farm. I turned right along the E-W fence line for 225 yards to the northwest corner of the farm .... a bunch of farm buildings are few hundred yards to the south (its entrance is from the south off of Mt Lebanon Road).
I checked out the area (cedar woods with open areas and a lot of junk such as wood, sheet metals, steel barrels) and picked my spot amid some cedar trees, 20 yards west of the fence corner .4 miles from the TH, GPS 32.56178,-96.97918.

AREA 2, PATTON BENCHMARK IN THE PB LIBRARY... a drive up on Texas Plume Road.
From Area 1 we went back to Hwy#67 Frontage Road and continued south .25 miles to a right turn on Mt Lebanon Road, .68 miles south we turned right on Texas Plume Road for 200 yards to the entrance on the right, signed "Mt Lebanon Retreat Center Summer Camp, for the Dallas Baptist Association".
On the right side of the entrance is a USA Mail Box with a Witness Post Survey Marker and the "USC&G Survey PATTON 1947" embedded in concrete.
The actual high ground is immediately north of the BM, in the front lawn of house #1646, there are great open views to the west.

"HOME, HOME ON THE RANGE
WHERE THE DEER AND THE ANTELOPE PLAY
WHERE SELDOM IS HEARD A DISCOURAGING WORD
AND THE SKIES ARE NOT CLOUDY ALL DAY." .... lyrics Home on the Range
