Ascent Trip ReportThe ADK Glens Falls-Saratoga chapter added a winter portion to their popular Fire Tower Challenge last year, so I'm revisiting some of them this winter to work on that list.
The weather was nice for mid-January. There were some clouds out and the temperature was high-30's. We brought along snowshoes but left them in the truck with there being only 1-2 in. on snow on the ground. The only real issue was ice on the trail. We had some warm temperatures lately and most of the snow around had melted. This caused the trail to be very slick in some spots, but far from difficult. It was very windy at the top and the windmill near the tower was whipping around to the point where we felt a little uncomfortable. Where the great view of the lake is on the north side of the summit, we were sheltered from the wind coming from the west and had a quick lunch and took some pics. Had a nice time with my friend Matt and it got me itching to go again soon.
