Ascent Trip Report

This was a rough day!
We got a late start heading up toward Heliotrope Ridge -- raining the whole way, dark about about half the way, and that turned to snow from about 500' below camp. The weather forecast was WAY off!! "Occasional showers" was actually sustained moderate to heavy rain and snow -- it was about 10 degrees cooler than estimated -- low 30s instead of low 40s with nasty winds. (I tried to tell 'em that a sofa and a TV are more essential than waterproof pants when the weather is like this -- but no one listens!) We were targeting higher but, just because it was so nasty, we made camp at the hogsback at about 10:30/11:00.

We were engulfed by heavy clouds in the morning but we'd occasionally see a break with a small patch of blue sky -- ie: carrot on a stick! But, we roped up and gave it a good effort. Traversed a couple awesome cravasses and got shut-down in white-out conditions at about 7500ft. Have a couple great pics that would break your heart -- too bad we can't upload. (Or, can we? I'm a newbie here...)
