Ascent of Mount Lafayette on 2012-07-09Date: | Monday, July 9, 2012 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Mount Lafayette | Location: | USA-New Hampshire | Elevation: | 5240 ft / 1597 m |
Ascent Trip ReportThe Old Bridle Path was a fantastic trail: it wove in and out of the woods quickly, offering some fine views very early on. Some segments were a little steep, but nothing out of the ordinary by White Mountains standards. You could really tell Lafayette's altitude at the summit: the wind was relentless. The ridge walk from Lafayette to Lincoln and from Lincoln to Little Haystack was great, with quite a few piles of boulders stacked like toy blocks along the way for some childish scrambling fun. The Falling Waters Trail down had its steep and slippery sections, but the waterfalls along the way were lovely in the golden glow of a July afternoon.
