Ascent Trip ReportNot one of the many hikers and bikees that we met along the trail up could tell us where this peak was, not even one woman we met just after coming down off the top, who pointed in the opposite direction, saying Temescal peak was a mile or so across a canyon. By then, I'd already climbed it before talking with her, and had hiked over to see the public map at the Gap, .8 mi north of the peak, which shows it's location, so I responded that it sure seemed to be in the right behind us, but she just raised her eyebrows. From the top, it's obviously the highest for a few miles around and, after coming home and reading about it, I confirmed it's location by the USGS marker on top which says 1933 and the label "Divide" but leaves the elevation blank. So many people pointed in other directions, I almost suspect it's a local custom to mislead folks.
Route: Went up the concrete water diversions path from the Palisades Highlands Trailhead, to turn left at Temescal Peak Trail. Hiked up to the radio tower, which was signed Mount Lee but is probably called Green Peak on the trail guides - I didn't list this as a peak since I couldn't find it on my topo map. Continued another 1.5 mi to turn right on the Backbone Trail. After just a tenth of a mile, went left on one of several use trails to the top of the peak, another tenth of a mile up. Two poles and that USGS survey marker are on top of the broken rocks that make up the summit.
