Ascent Trip Report

A trail and bushwack from Canadian Side ..... 8.2km, 3h30 hours RT for both peaks.

South of Parc National du Mont-Megantic is the small village of Notre-Dame-des-Bois. From the intersection of Hwy 212 and Route de l'Eglise (church on corner) I traveled south on l'Eglise 7.2km to the T-Junction with 10e Rang where I turned left and drove east 1.8km to the Sentier Frontalier "SF1" at an old steel fence post. The trail crosses the road at this point, this was my TH. I parked at the woods road to the right, 150+ meters before the trail.

BARKER POND MOUNTAIN - NORTH SLOPE ..... a trail hike of 3.5km, 1h05 hours ascent from TH.
I hiked the SF1 southbound 2.5km to the USA/CAN Border. The trail turns left, follows the Boundary Line Swath eastbound for less than a kilometer then turns left again back into the Quebec woods. I stayed straight on the swath (a good path), passed a green Hunter's Cabin at 50M and in another 100M arrived at the height-of-land ..... at a small rock outcrop at a sharp bend right-on the Boundary Line, on the USA side of the swath on a tree is an orange "USA/CAN Boundary Marker, #473.8, 7.25M". I named this spot Barker Pond Mountain - North Slope and added it to the PB library for Greg's approval.

BARKER POND MOUNTAIN ..... a bushwack of .6km, 25 minute from the USA/Can Border.
From the North Slope (USA/Can Border) I bushwacked south up the ridge about .6km to the obvious woods summit with no views. The mostly evergreen forest is fairly open with dense patches and dead fall, the moderate bushwack took me 25 minutes.
A small Canister with a register was placed in 1987 by Dennis Crispo, Bob Anderson and Sonny Martineau, the last to sign in was Pinpine, St Jerome, June 2011.
I backtracked to the TH and then drove another 400M up the road to a parking area on the left just before a fork in the road. I overnighted here, this will be my TH for tomorrow's climb to Saddle Hill/Marble.

"IT'S NOT THE MOUNTAIN THAT WE CONQUER, BUT OURSELVES."
