Ascent Trip Report

It wasn't my first time up this nearby peak, but the first time with a 45-lb pack and 5-lb ankle weights (after working all night). It was a beautiful morning, and there were lots of people on the trail. Round trip of 6 miles took me 3 hours. Ate a chocolate Power Bar and some peanuts at the picnic table on the summit. The cool breeze on my sweaty shirt started to give me a bit of chill, so I didn't stay long. A few minutes after arriving, a Sherrif helicopter circled the peak in close and low, at eye level. Very cool. Several people asked what I was training for and gave enthusiastic thumbs-up to our JMT plans in June. Iron Mountain is the 2nd highest mountain in San Diego, just a few feet less than Mt. Woodson.
