Ascent Trip Report

Car camped at Lone Fir on the other side of Washington Pass on Friday night. I tagged along with Mark, Sue, Justin, and Margo. They were planning to spend Saturday night at Wing Lake, so they had overnight packs. My plan was to come out the same day and get back for Patty's birthday.

We left the TH at 7:15am and made Wing Lake by 10:50am. All the campers set up camp and ditched the heavy stuff. We left the lake at 11:45 and made the ridge after a little snow down low and sandy loose scree higher up. Pretty easy compared to what we trudged through earlier in the week in the Pasayten. Made the start of the South ridge at 12:40, and the summit by 2:00pm. From where we gained the ridge we followed it to 8400ft. moved left into a gully, climbed to 8500ft and moved left again into another gully. Followed this to the large flat sandy bench below the false summit, then traversed right on easy ledges to the East Ridge route, don't be tempted to start up to early.

The last 40 ft. was class 3/4, but easier than I had expected. Great views of Goode.

I descended to the end of the ridge with everyone and then took off towards the lake and the car on my own, trying to beat the darkness. I left the ridge at 3:50 and made the cars at 6:00 pm. 10 hours 45 minutes car to car. A fun scramble, I'll be back for sure, NE ridge next time.
