Ascent Trip ReportI approached Little Grayback from Oregon. I took Happy Camp Road from the Illinois Valley near Takilma and headed up the mountain towards Happy Camp about 8 miles to the Page Mtn Recreation Area. I turned off the paved road and went left before the outhouse and took the left fork that is signed FR 4810 then the right fork. This is confusing, but I just stayed on the road most travelled. I drove about 3 miles on this road until I was on the west side of Little Grayback and I parked in an old borrow pit at elevation 5,180 ft.
This is a steep slope with brush under a forest canopy. I took the path of least resistance that lead me up to the saddle north of the summit. From this saddle it looks like there may be some technical rock scrmbling to get to the summit, but I was able to find a route that was no more than Class 2 all the way to the summit. There were 2 deer hunters on the summit who had come up from the south. good views, but it was a little smokey. On the way down, I just took a direct line down to the road. It wasn't any brushier on the way down.
