Ascent Trip ReportUsed Pete Yamagata's old Northern Sierra Peaks Guidebook for drive and hike routes. This peak is on the Tahoe-OGUL peaks list. For the drive route, I turned south off of Hwy 4 in Pacific Valley and drove through the campground. This turn is about 3/4 of a mile east of Pacific Grade summit. Getting in late, I camped at the far end of the campground where there is a loop road and the beginning of a jeep road. This campground was really quite nice and had reasonably clean pit toilets. And there was no camping fee!
In the morning, I drove up the jeep road in my 4x4 Jeep, but got only 0.4 mile before being stopped by a short, rough section of rock. I parked here and started hiking up the Jeep road to its end at a fence and trailhead. The trail to the left goes up Marshall Canyon, which I followed for about a mile to the point where it crosses the main river. I left the trail here and headed north through trees and light brush to the summit.
