Ascent Trip Report

Peak number 1 of 4 on my trip with my parents. We came up the very narrow and curvy road from Quimby Road. This took us about 45 minutes on this road to the top. If you follow the road all the way to the observatory you are going the right way. Just passed the the observatory on the left is a gated off road with signs saying property of UC. It is a short hike around the gate and up to an old watch tower left over from WW II. I asked if I would be prosecuted if I went around the gate and got a laugh and a probably not. it is about 0.5 mile up and down on an gentle slope. I could not find a marker, but the old tower is pretty cool. It took about 7 minutes up and about 3 minutes down (jogging) and I spent about ten minutes at the top. All together about 20 minutes. We went down the way we came down Quimby Road. However, if you continue along that road it takes you to Mines Road, which is the gateway to Mt. Boardman. Later on this trip we went down Mines Road starting in Livermore and it is a very cool drive. We left Mines Road and exited towards the 5 freeway and that was a scenic drive as well.
