Ascent Trip ReportOn Interstate 10 west of Phoenix take exit 81 for Salome Road. Go south a short 150ft. and turn right (west) onto Harquahala Valley Road. In about 0.2 miles this turns left and heads straight south. Continue on this paved road until you reach a junction at 5.1 miles where you turn left (east) onto Courthouse Road. Go east on this paved road for 7.6 miles and then turn off right toward Saddle Mountain on a fair dirt road. Follow this road which gets steadily more rocky for about 1.1 miles and park in any of several turnouts. A standard high-clearance vehicle can drive this route. UTM at this trailhead is: 311200E, 3702680N. Hike west up the slopes toward an impressive white cliff face. Below the cliff is a sloping ramp that leads left to higher ground on the SE side of the mountain. There is a ducked route along here that is helpful to follow. When you reach the ridge turn right up fairly easy slopes to the more rugged ridgeline that runs south of the summit plateau. Go right up rocky ledges to the top and the benchmark which is at the northwestern end. The ascent takes about 1 1/2 hour. 3/97 RLC
