Ascent of Mount Lafayette on 2012-07-29| Date: | Sunday, July 29, 2012 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Mount Lafayette | | Location: | USA-New Hampshire | | Elevation: | 5240 ft / 1597 m |
Ascent Trip ReportThe drive in from the south had us second guessing as it was quite cloudy. Hit the trail a little after 8. The beginning is quite level with good footing and it was easy going. Intensity increases as you venture up onto a ridge during the approach to the Greenleaf Hut. There are several nice cliffs to take in the scenic views along the way.
We stopped for an early lunch at the hut (they have water) before continuing on to the Greenleaf Trail. The approach to Lafayette is steep once you get above treeline. The entire summit was enveloped in clouds and numerous false summits made the hike intriguing.
Visibility improved as we ventured onward along the Franconia Ridge Trail.
