Ascent Trip Report

To access Garwood Butte, turn off Hwy 230 at the Three Lakes sno-park and go 6.2 miles to the turnoff for Garwood Butte on the right. Unfortunately, this route was still snow blocked for me so I approached from FR 37 and FR 3703. The Garwood Butte road is a little rough, muddy, and was snow blocked about 0.6 mile from the main road. I parked and hiked up the road. After a big switchback, I came to a trail signed for the Garwood Butte, so I hiked up the trail to the summit and fire lookout on the summit. Great views from the summit of Mt Bailey and Crater Lake National Park. On the way down I cut the switchback in the road and saved some mileage. My topo shows a trail through this area, but there is not one. It is an open grassy area that has been logged.
