Ascent Trip ReportThis peak can be climbed in a moderate day hike from the parking lot and trailhead in Horseshoe Meadows. Start on the trail heading west to Cottonwood Pass. The trail is good, but sandy and will eventually head up in a series of switchbacks to the pass at about 11,160 feet. Turn right here following the Pacific Crest Trail toward Chicken Spring Lake. The trail ascends the ridge southwest of the lake and then runs gradually downhill along the west side of the ridge. Hike into about the middle of section 12 shown on the map before you leave the trail and head up the slopes to the right to the summit. The going is moderate through the rocky terrain and some easy rock scrambling is required near the top. The hike takes about 2 hours to the pass then another 2 to 2 1/2 to the top. The route is 13.8 miles round-trip with a gain of 3500 feet. 9/02 RLC
