Ascent Trip ReportHiked with the New England group. Led by Diane. Carpooled up with Andy it was a great idea to share the long ride. We met Zach on the way up as he was descending from Carter Dome .. he must have gotten quite the early start!
There was quite a bit of snow and the day before's ice storm coated everything with very thick ice. Evergreen branches became cement overhangs so care was needed. The high snowpack and low branches left a small tunnel to go through and at times this was on hand and knee. It was cold and windy, but extremely beautiful! This was my probably my favorite winter hike last year! The ice really made thinks surreal. Most views were clouded in.
Just Dave and I got to grab the gem of the North Peak! It looked like nobody else had been here in weeks. Following the trail was tough and a few spots were very deep with low branches overhead making progress slow. View near summit was awesome!! See the photos. We finished after dark and got home I believe around 11 pm, work the next morning was interesting - and in contrast so boring!
