Ascent Trip Report

I accessed Huckleberry Mtn from SR 25 and then turned on paved Cedonia-Addy Road. About 9.3 miles from Cedonia I turned right onto FR 32-38-34-A that is signed as Locke Road. I statyed on the main Locke Road and ignored all the side spurs. There are a lot of side spurs and the the area has been logged in places, but there was no logging activity when I visited. This road climbs up to a ridge, crosses a saddle and then starts switchbacking up Huckleberry Mtn. These are long switchbacks about a mile in each direction. After the last switchback at about 5,200 ft the road cuts across the west face of Huckleberry Mtn and eventually goes over to Stensgar Mtn. I parked about 6.2 miles from the Cedonia- Addy road along the west side of Huckleberry Mtn.

There has been some logging along the west side of the peak and I hiked up one of the clear cut routes towards the summit. This clear cut route took me more than half was to the summit, then I continued up through the forest with some minor bushwhacking. When I reached the ridge, I turned north, found the highpoint rock under a dead tree and then contued north to the benchmark. The benchmark is on top of a talus pile about 30 ft high. There are nice views to the east from the summit and becnhmark areas.
