Ascent Trip Report

Terrapin Mountain is home to three 600 foot contours and Panola Mississippi’s highest point.

Take exit 243 off of I-55 toward Oxford, Mississippi and go 10.5 miles on US-278/MS-6 and turn right (south) on to Shady Grove Rd. Stay on Shady Grove Rd for approximately 3.5 miles and turn left (east) on a gated but unlocked gravel road. The road forks with one side leading uphill to a radio antenna and the other that initially leads downhill but eventually to the highpoint.

The first contour is immediately after gaining to summit ridge at a T-intersection; this contour appears to be lower than the other two. Turn left and enter a hunting camp mentioned in other reports. One is in an open field on the north side of the camp. The last point is east of the camp in an over grown field. In my opinion, this third eastern point is the highest.

This high point possibly should be avoided during hunting season but the unlocked gated presented no difficulties for attaining this high point.
