In Deming take exit 85 off Interstate 10 and go south. In about 0.2 miles turn left (east) onto highway 549. Drive east for 4.2 miles and turn right (south) onto route 143 called Stirrup Road. Follow this road toward Rockhound State Park and after 5.6 miles turn right onto route 198. At 6.3 miles continue straight onto Gap Road where the paved road turns to the right. At 7.8 miles turn left onto Pampas Road. There is a house with a red roof on the west side of the road near this junction. Pampas Road drops down and passes by a house on the left then enters a canyon. At 8.3 miles cross a cattle guard. At 8.6 and 9.2 miles stay left at junctions in the road. At 9.4 miles cross another cattle guard and then the road goes up a steep grade. At the top at 10.0 miles there is a gate that you will open. Proceed north past a water tank at 10.5 miles and then up another steep grade. At 11.1 reach the crest of a hill with a tower on the left. At about 12.2 miles look for a tower with six large dish antennas on the left and turn toward it. At 12.3 miles park at a junction with a road going to this tower. Hike up past the tower to the highest point of the mountain which is a short walk of several hundred feet. There is a cairn and register at the top. 5/02 RLC
