Ascent Trip Report

Went back to get-ur-done after a not so great experience last year. This year the team was strong and willing, the weather..... Noel, Mark, Steve and I stayed at the Mazama Lodge on Saturday night for our one or two hours of sleep, 11:30pm wake up call. Started walking from the Timberline Lodge parking lot at 12:30am, warm but cloudy turned into rain, windy and white-out. Rain turned into freezing rain around 9 or 10,000 ft., we saw a bunch of folks bailing out even the guides, I had my doubts as well. Made it up to the Hogsback in pitch black/white-out conditions, traversed over to the old chute which had plenty of nice steps and a well beaten down boot path. The ridge traverse to the summit had some nasty exposure for the first 30 or 40 feet, especially with some wind. We arrived at the summit at 5:30am covered in so much ice we didn't (or probably couldn't) take any photos. Stayed for about 45 seconds then got the heck out of there. Back to the car by a little after 8am, still covered in about 1/2 inch of ice. Raced down the road for breakfast, coffee and showers at the Mazama Lodge, country club style.
