Ascent Trip Report

I came to this HP on 2 separate occasions, the first visit was with Rose on 2010-11-25 where I only went to Area 1. Fred's TR and others refers to a second area (even though PB doesn't not) so I came back today alone to visit both Areas.

AREA 1 ...... A walk up a rough/wet dirt road at the south end of the County .....1.8 miles, 1 hour RT from TH.
I had on hand Fred Lobdell's TR of 2002 for the driving instructions, and the PB's coordinates. From the center of Waterville, hwy 12, I traveled east on White Street for 2 miles to a rough Dirt Road on the left which climbs 1.9 miles to the summit of Tassel Hill, the last half of this road is very rough with huge wet areas and not for my van (ok for high clearance). We drove 1 mile and parked the car, this was our TH ...... I would find out that I could have actually driven within .3 miles of the summit.

I walked .9 miles on the rough Dirt Road (flooded over in a few places at the north shoulder of the mountain) to the summit ..... a fairly large/flat clearing with tall grass and a turnaround (some deep/muddy rutted spots). The Tower no longer here. I walked the area and chose my spot as the highpoint to the left as you arrive at the summit, at a GPS reading of 42.94144, 75.31635, by luck the same as PB.

AREA 2 .... a rough woods track/bushwack southbound from Area 1 summit, 1.5 miles, 1 hour RT.
At the south end of Area 1 summit clearing a woods road descends to the right (southwest), to its left is a lesser track descending southeast which I followed 150 yards to where it turns right, a badly overgrown track continues/descends straight (southeast) 200 yards to a left-right woods track. I descended this overgrown track by staying left in open woods, a lot easier.

I turned right at the left-right woods track (it parallels/stays horizontal/below the north-south mountain ridge) and followed it for .4 miles to way-point 42.93264,-75.31166. On the way I had to go around numerous wet/muddy badly rutted spots.
I turned right and bushwacked/climbed in open woods 200 yards to the wooded summit (some underbrush). Nothing obvious, stomped around some, chose my spot at 42.93260,-75.31314.
