Ascent Trip ReportBy this point in my short trip through the south, I barely had faith in a 2011 Jeep Patriot to surmount the daintiest of paved roads in the suburbs. I think many interstate highways might be beyond its meager abilities. Give me my 20 year old Ford truck ANY day. Three patched tires (that cost me several counties), outfitted with a donut, breeze whistling through a closed cabin, 12 gallon tank, slippery 2WD (that scrapped an entire day in Louisiana), awful mileage, etc, etc. Boo!
I wound up parking a quarter mile away on this driveup because of a couple of minor ruts a few days after a big rain and was greeted by several of the dogs mentioned in Bill Jacobs' report on cohp.org. There is a house on the corner where the closest access road heads east to the contour and the resident canines greeted me. Barking dogs all around had me carrying a pole just for worst case scenarios, even though I'm a total dog person, but these little dudes were all bark. As I headed down the final road on foot, they ran to hide behind the house while continuing their barking.
The bushwhack into the contour was very dense, but not many of the plants had thorns. I wandered some, but there is a distinct rise exactly at the coordinates given in Ben Lostracco's report on this site.
Easy county, all 170 vertical feet of it.
