Ascent Trip ReportUsing a car shuttle, I started out at Red Box near Mt Wilson with the idea to mountain bike on 2N24 over to Newcomb then down to Spring Rd to pick up Clamshell Peak then over to Monrovia and Rankin for a four peak day. However, I lost my back tire and wasn't able to change it out so walked anything uphill and rode on the rim on the downhill making it a long day. Total mileage was about 24 miles, 2600' of ascent and took just over 6 hours. I wasn't in the mood to go down to Clamshell which would have added another 6 miles and 1300' of ascent. By the time I got to Monrovia Peak, it would have been an easy grab but the sun was setting so time to just head home and save these for another day. Despite the mechanical malfunctions, the day was perfect and I would recommend this route to anyone using a bike. It follows the forest road through a very pretty section and had an overall decent of 6500' so lots of fun. Monrovia Canyon was gorgeous and a very nice way to end the day. I guess it is time to shop for a new bike. :)
