Ascent Trip ReportI hiked out-and-back from Route 16 to Mt. Moriah along the Stony Brook Trail and part of the Carter-Moriah Trail.
This was a beautiful day for winter hiking. It was pleasantly warm, and I barely saw a cloud in the sky all day. At the summit of Moriah, there was barely a breath of wind, and the warming sunshine made it attractive to stay for a long time. It almost felt like beach weather, despite the snow on the ground.
I was impressed by the view, which is highlighted by the north Presidentials. This was a good vantage point for viewing those peaks, and I think that by itself is enough of a reason to visit Moriah.
There was quite a large group at the summit when I arrived. It looked like Ed H. and friends also chose this hike today. They seemed like a friendly bunch.
