Ascent Trip ReportA drive up to a National Park.
After visiting the west end of the spectacular Talimena National Scenic Byway in Oklahoma we continued east into to Arkansas, and decided to drive up to the Rich Mountain Fire Tower National Park for a picnic lunch (sunny but a bit on the cool side). The short access road (off of #88) to this summit is 9.33 miles east of the State Line.
The summit is capped with the Fire Tower, Communication Tower and picnic tables. The rusty-looking Fire Tower is fenced-in with a locked gate.
We found a hotel in the city of Mena for the night.
