Ascent Trip Report

Parked in paved parking lot, but a 4x4 of modest virtues gets you further up the road and parking at 10,400' to 10,500'. Just a walk up a trail, though looming thunderheads and intermittent hail/rain were constant companions. Elevation became noticeable at around 13,300'. Sort of a "steep trail" effect yet your eyes tell you the trail isn't all that steep. I was still blowing by lots of people really feeling it. The trail was pleasant, even after climbing above treeline. Views were incredible, and La Plata Peak to the South/Southeast has me planning to visit CO again next summer. Did this one with a broken tailbone and badly bruised sacrum from a skydiving incident two days earlier, but it was more of a problem on the drive over from Colorado Springs than the hike.
