Ascent Trip ReportFabulous week in Baxter State Park with Jeff, Emily, Ashley and Michael. Skiied in the first day from Abol Bridge to Roaring Brook. Hauled our gear up to Chimney Pond on Day 2. Summited Baxter via Cathedral trail and across the Saddle to Hamlin peak, and down Hamlin Ridge Tr on Day 3. Back to Roaring Brook on Day 4. Back out to Abol Bridge on Day 5. Cathedral trail was steep and icy and one of the toughest longest 1.7 miles I've done. But a good challenge and I enjoyed it. Started with crampons and ice axes. Once up high, we switched to snowshoes on the tablelands to avoid punching through the crusty snow. Perfect for the way over to Hamlin. Crampons back down the Hamlin Ridge. Forecast called for clouds - but the day was perfect. Sunny, blue skies, little wind. Views for miles. Perfect.
