Ascent Trip ReportTo reach Ryan BM take highway 190 east for 10.8 miles from its junction with highway 178 at the Furnace Creek Inn. Then turn south on the paved road to Dantes View and after 7.5 miles turn off to the left onto the graded dirt Greenwater Road which is suitable for most any high-clearance vehicle. Reset your odometer and note the following junctions: at 2.8 miles go straight past a road branching right, at 5.6 miles a road angles off to the NW, and finally at 5.8 miles stop at a junction with a road heading SW. Park at this point to start the hike of the mountain which is only a half mile to the east. The summit is at a bearing of 31 degrees and is just north of the sharp point on the ridge. Head east across the valley and up the prominent ridge on the SW side of the mountain and then turn north for another 0.4 miles. One can avoid climbing the pinnacle by staying to the right side and head to the true summit further north. Allow 1 1/2 hours for the ascent and about 1 hour to return. Elevation gain is 1450 ft. and the roundtrip distance is 2 1/2 miles. 12/94 RLC
