Ascent Trip ReportOnyx peak can be reach from the town of Redlands by driving highway 38 through Angeles Oaks to the north side of the San Bernardino Mountains. At Onyx Summit turn off onto forest road 1N01 which is a good, but rocky road up the mountain. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended. After 1.0 mile the Pacific Crest Trail crosses the road. The road continues around the north side of the mountain and then levels somewhat and turns south. At 2.0 miles reach a fork with 1N01B on the right going to the summit. If the gate a short distance ahead is open you can drive to the top. Maintenance crews may be at work at the several radio installations on top. If the gate is closed it is a short walk to the top. The are great views to the east over the desert. 6/95 RLC
