Ascent Trip ReportTo reach the lookout site exit I-15 at Sierra Ave. near Rancho Cucamonga and drive north on Lytle Creek Road for 1.5 miles. At this point turn left onto Forest Road 1N34, a dirt road heading up the mountain. This road is open only in the fall and winter months and requires a high-clearance vehicle up to the turn for the lookout and four-wheel drive further on. Proceed up the road for 7.7 miles to a turnoff on the right with a gate that is usually open to a microwave site. Drive in on this road for 0.2 miles and park at a dip just before the road climbs up to the buildings. There is very limited parking here for at most two vehicles. Hike over a berm northeast on a path that was the road to the lookout. The hike about 400 feet downhill until the last part where there is about 100 feet of uphill to the fundations that remain. The route is about 2 miles round-trip and takes about 1/2 hour down and 3/4 to 1 hour for the return. 10/99 RLC
