|Date:||Saturday, June 10, 1995|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||8235 ft / 2510 m|
Ascent Trip ReportTo hike the mountain, start at the junction of highways 18 and 38 on the north side of Big Bear City and drive NE on route 18. After 3.6 miles turn north on paved Holcomb Valley Road. At 0.9 miles turn left at the county dump onto dirt road 3N16 (shown as 3N08 on older maps). The road climbs and at 1.7 miles go left at a junction and at 1.8 miles pass the Doble Mine. At 2.3 miles park alongside the road in a canyon where jeep road 3N69 joins from the left. UTM for this point is: 515180E, 3795120N. Hike up the jeep road heading south and in about 0.4 miles note that the Pacific Crest Trail crosses the road. The road will make some switchbacks and then turn SW and reach some good viewpoints near the top. Where the road makes a sharp turn to the right and begins to descend, leave the road and walk about a hundred feet SE to the summit. The hike is about 1.2 miles each way with an elevation gain of 900 ft. Hiking time is about 1 hour for the ascent and about 1/2 to 3/4 hour to return. There is a description of a hike up the mountain from the Doble Mine in "San Bernardino Mountain Trails" by John W. Robinson. See hike #24 on p. 73. 6/95 RLC
